"The Long Way Home - Revised Edition" by Ed Dover

Hello Mr Dover - I just finished reading your wonderful book ,I really enjoyed it. As a retired airline pilot I could almost feel I was there and could relate to the various events. Thanks for keeping this important piece of aviation history alive. Michael L.

I recently ordered your book from Amazon.com. This is the second copy I have ordered. The first one was for my brother. The second one is for a family friend. Your shipments have arrived faster than anything else I have ordered from Amazon. I appreciate that. The best thing, though, is that you took the time to autograph the books. My brother was thrilled, and I am sure my friend will be too. David L.

Really enjoyed the book. I got a charge out of reading about the takeoff downstream from Leopoldville, and then going to Google satellite and zooming in on the very stretch of river you describe in the book. Technology has sure taken us for a ride over the last decades! I'm a Continental 777 pilot and read about your book on the Continental Pilot's Forum. Those of us in the airline business today manage to complain a lot, but it's good to be reminded about what a great career it really is, and who it was that created the profession for us. Thanks for telling the story so well. I learned a lot from it. All the best, Julian K.

I have just finished your book, "The Long Way Home" and I am so thankful that you were able to document this historic event. I was happy to see that you also added dialog to the story and that it wasn't just a listing of events. It added life to the brave characters on that great undertaking. As my father, who was a B-17 pilot during WWII would say, "that is real flying". Robert S.

I want to compliment you on "The Long Way Home". It is an excellent book. I was thoroughly entranced by this book and found it very educational. I have wanted it for many years and am so glad you made additional printings. As someone born after the flying boat era, your book helped me vicariously experience the pleasure and risks of traveling by Clipper. Marc R.

Hi, Ed. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed your book "Long Way Home"; the story of Pacific Clipper and her hair raising experience. I actually had the feeling of being right there on the flight deck with Captain Ford and the rest of the crew. Jesse C.

Just finished reading your book “The Long Way Home”. Also sent a copy to my dad (WW II vet, navigator in B-24s flying out of England). We both enjoyed it. I found out about your book from some pilots on the Cessna Pilot’s Bulletin board, who were sharing links to the YouTube video. What a story! I was thoroughly engrossed. Just wanted to send you a note of thanks for preserving and documenting this amazing piece of our history & let you know how much I appreciated the book & your efforts. THANK YOU.

Thank you for the copy of The Long Way Home that I just ordered through Amazon. Your book was recommended to me several years ago, however I'd only been able to find rather expensive used copies. I was quite happy to find that its now been reprinted. I was even more happy to find that I could buy it from the author. Thank you for having taken the time to sign it for me. As a soon-to-retire 747 Captain for Northwest Airlines this story, as well as its significance to our aviation history, is something that I think needs to be told. I'm most heartily looking forward to a long, casual read. Doug F.

I just finished reading The Long Way Home. I really enjoyed it and wanted to thank you for writing it. You did a super job telling the story and I almost felt like I was part of the crew. It is a very interesting story that I'm sure, few people know about. I am a retired United 777 pilot and I didn't know about this flight. My wife Rita, is still flying as a flight attendant for United. She bought your book as a present for me. We both read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tom M.

I don't usually write to authors after reading their material...but in this case, I'll make an exception. I just finished Long Way Home and all I can say is WOW! What a story. As an airline captain myself, I can really appreciate the challenges that Capt. Ford faced. I took it a step further and tried to put myself into his seat. Capt. Ford ranks right up there with Capt Al Haynes (UAL) of the Sioux City, IA crash. They where both presented with a situation that there is no practicing for. Both of these men rose to a level of professionalism that is uncommon in this, or any other age. Thank you for preserving this story for future generations of airmen. Capt. Kurt A.

I have really enjoyed your book. I am going to develop an outline for

a possible documentary about this terrific piece of American history.

(possibly for History Channel, or Smithsonian) You've done us a great

service. I grew up in Manila, and had always heard about the China Clipper, and

Ed Musick. We used to fly Pan Am flight 001 from San Francisco to Manila.

David Hill
